Treasures of the Great Barrier Reef

Ideas from Teachers

(Gr. 9-12)
In my marine science class, I show NOVA's "Treasures of the Great Barrier Reef" program. I use the program to reinforce my lecture on "Sex in the Sea" or to open or close the unit on Cnidarians.

I usually have students take notes while they watch the film. At then end, I have students write a paragraph noting why they think corals, which are asexual reproducers, expend such a large amount of energy in sexual reproduction. I also may ask them to list examples of sexual reproduction given during the film.
