What's New About Menopause

Program Overview

For most women, menopause is an inevitable and natural part of the aging process, marked by hormonal changes and loss of fertility. Hot flashes and night sweats may be minor discomforts, but the dramatic decline in the female sex hormone estrogen can also lead to illnesses like osteoporosis and heart disease. Science has now made it possible for women to bear children well after the onset of menopause and to retain the hormone levels of much younger women. The women portrayed in this film must make choices about their bodies based on inconclusive scientific evidence and controversial treatments.
