Program Overview
|
|
Lightning is one of the most common and least understood phenomena in
meteorology. It is also one of the most dangerous. Each year, lightning kills
eighty to one hundred people in the United States. When lightning strikes
electrical lines, the resulting power interruptions and blackouts can be
hazardous as well as annoying. This episode of NOVA follows several teams of
investigators collecting information and images to answer questions such as how
lightning is formed, how to predict and prevent lightning strikes, and how to
protect people from its dangers.
